As reported by AS, Tottenham Hotspur star Pedro Porro has been a long-time target for Real Madrid. However, despite extensive scouting and discussions over the years, the club has yet to make a serious move to acquire the Spanish right-back.
This summer, discussions about Porro’s potential transfer resurfaced, but the club chose to pursue other options. Following his exceptional performances at the World Cup, some within Real Madrid now feel that the chance to sign him may have passed.

A long-term interest
Real Madrid’s admiration for Porro spans nearly a decade. After he left Rayo Vallecano as a youth player in 2016 and again in 2017, the club’s recruitment team actively sought to bring him to Valdebebas. However, Girona ultimately secured his services by presenting a clearer path to first-team football. Since then, Porro has continuously been on Real Madrid’s scouting radar.

His growth at Sporting CP, followed by his emergence as one of Tottenham’s key players, has only reinforced the belief that he could be a worthy successor to Dani Carvajal.

Considered but not prioritized
While Porro’s name featured frequently in squad planning discussions, he never emerged as Real Madrid’s primary target, even this summer. Reportedly, head coach Jose Mourinho also recognizes Porro’s potential.
However, the club’s long-term strategy has revolved around Trent Alexander-Arnold, along with significant financial considerations.
Acquiring Porro from Tottenham this summer would likely have required an investment exceeding €50 million, a figure Los Merengues found hard to justify given their existing priorities. Consequently, they opted to sign Denzel Dumfries for around €20 million. While Dumfries is older than Porro, he offered a more economical solution.

World Cup boosts his profile
Porro’s outstanding World Cup performances have positioned him among the top full-backs globally. His strong offensive play combined with solid defensive skills has heightened his market value and convinced some at Real Madrid that he could have been a valuable addition.
In light of rising interest from multiple clubs, Tottenham moved swiftly to extend Porro’s contract through 2031, providing him with one of the highest salaries within the squad.
An opportunity missed
Those close to Porro suggest that, as a lifelong Real Madrid fan, he would have seriously contemplated a move had the club made an official offer, which ultimately did not happen.

Real Madrid kept track of his development, discussed his fit within the team, and assessed the financial ramifications, but did not proceed beyond internal conversations.
Currently, Porro is content in London, while Real Madrid continues with their existing options at right-back. Nonetheless, at 26 years old, the potential for their paths to cross in the future remains a possibility.
