Real Madrid has kicked off the new year in style, seizing an early advantage in their La Liga matchup against Real Betis.
The opening goal signifies a fantastic start to 2026 for Gonzalo García, who has netted his first goal in the Spanish top division.

After an impressive 2025, where the 21-year-old secured the FIFA Club World Cup Golden Boot with four goals in six matches, García was afforded a rare starting opportunity by Xabi Alonso due to Kylian Mbappé’s injury.
García justified Alonso’s faith 20 minutes into the game, breaking free from his marker to connect with a flawless free-kick from a sharp Rodrygo, scoring with a header at the back post.
Displaying his talent further in the second half, García brought the ball down with his chest and unleashed a spectacular volley from just outside the box, extending Real Madrid’s lead.
With such a promising start, it will be intriguing to see what the rest of 2026 holds for Real Madrid’s newest talent!
