Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro discussed his team’s notable 2-1 triumph against Barcelona, shedding light on the events of one of this week’s most talked-about matches.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the Spaniard reflected on the fine details that influenced the outcome and his own impressive display in goal.
When asked about the match from his perspective, Remiro candidly acknowledged the role of luck while emphasizing that fortune often favors those who prepare and position themselves well.
“There was definitely a bit of luck involved, but it’s also something you work for,” he stated. “There are many moments where luck plays a part, but sometimes it’s about being in the right place, or how a player tries to obstruct a shot, or if you get a touch that leads the ball to hit the post and go out—that’s because you made the right move.”
“Regarding the offside decisions, if you’re holding the line effectively, then it’s well-executed. Lamine’s goal was very close, but you have to also chase that luck.”
When asked about his own performance and its significance in keeping Real Sociedad competitive, Remiro expressed happiness, saying,
“Yes, I’m very satisfied. You must be happy too, right?”
Competition with Joan Garcia
Beyond the victory, the match carried additional importance due to the competition for positions in the Spanish national team.

When asked if outperforming García gives him an advantage, Remiro downplayed the notion of one-off evaluations, explaining,
“No, you can’t judge based on just one match. It’s about the process, player development, and moments of form.”
“At the end of the day, he’s a talented young Spanish player, but the final decision rests with the coach, Luis [de la Fuente].”
“Competition is beneficial as it elevates the level of goalkeepers, ensuring that whoever plays is thoroughly prepared and well-supported, which is what we need.”
Links to Barcelona
With rumors circulating about a potential move to Barcelona, Remiro was asked about his future.
However, he chose to remain focused on the present and sidestepped speculation. Addressing the rumors calmly, he stated,
“Now is not the time to discuss this. It’s natural for teams to notice a player who has been performing for a long time.”
“At the moment, I haven’t talked to my representatives about this, as my priority is to finish the season strong, fight for European qualification, improve continuously, and aim for the World Cup.”
“I don’t have any other focus right now, and I want to concentrate on what I can control.”
