Richard Hughes has finalized an exciting deal for Liverpool.
The Reds are gradually progressing into a promising new phase. Following a challenging series of losses, Arne Slot has successfully guided the team back to victory against Aston Villa and Real Madrid.

However, challenges persist. Questions linger regarding the integration of talents like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak into this dynamic squad.
Additionally, there are still gaps to address, particularly in the center-back position, where depth appears lacking.
Liverpool attempted to bolster this area over the summer, but the situation has unfortunately worsened. Jarell Quansah has departed, and his replacement, Giovanni Leoni, is out for the remainder of the season due to a serious injury.
With Marc Guehi’s absence, Liverpool finds itself on the verge of a critical situation—just one injury away from having to field Ryan Gravenberch or Wataru Endo as backups.
A center-back signing is likely in January, but whether it will be Guehi or another player remains uncertain.
In the long run, the defensive lineup is poised for significant changes in the coming years—this is unavoidable.
There’s a cloud of uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s future, as he has yet to sign a new contract and could leave for free at the season’s end.
Virgil van Dijk’s contract, which has less than two years remaining, raises questions about his longevity at the club, especially at age 34.
Moreover, due to Joe Gomez’s injury history and Liverpool’s willingness to sell him to AC Milan last summer, his long-term future at Anfield also seems uncertain.
The only center-back currently assured of staying at Anfield for the foreseeable future is Leoni. However, his recovery from injury remains critical, along with various other factors influencing his development given his age.
Hughes undoubtedly considered these factors when deciding to sell Jarell Quansah over the summer.
He didn’t just allow Quansah to leave for Bayer Leverkusen; he negotiated a £70 million buy-back option for the player as reported recently.
The agreement extends further; as mentioned earlier, Liverpool also secured a pre-agreement for Quansah’s contract if the buy-back clause is activated.
This demonstrates Hughes’s serious consideration of Quansah as a future Anfield asset. Liverpool officials still regard him highly, understanding he needs consistent playing time for his growth.
Currently, Quansah is getting valuable minutes at Leverkusen and making an impression. In his latest Champions League outing, he helped secure a clean sheet against Benfica, showcasing his abilities by completing two dribbles, covering 11km, and making five clearances.
His standout performance suggests that a return to Liverpool is becoming increasingly likely.
