Liverpool Sets Its Sights on Olympiakos Goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis

Over the past few years, Liverpool’s goalkeeping department has been quite robust.

Alisson has established himself as the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, with Caoimhin Kelleher serving as his reliable backup until this season.

This summer, Kelleher made the decision to join Brentford, leading to the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili as Liverpool’s new second-choice goalkeeper.

Although Mamardashvili has delivered some commendable performances while stepping in for Alisson, there are indications that his future at Anfield may be uncertain, particularly if a recent report from Area Napoli holds true.

The report notes that Roma, Juventus, and Napoli are keen on acquiring Konstantinos Tzolakis, with the goalkeeper reportedly interested in a move to Serie A.

Olympiakos is reportedly demanding a transfer fee of around £17 million for their star player, which seems like a reasonable price.

Area Napoli also indicates that Liverpool and Arsenal have been observing Tzolakis over recent months, even with their goalkeeping spots currently filled.

As previously highlighted, when Mamardashvili has been on the pitch for Liverpool this season, he has generally shown solid performances.

Having served as Valencia’s starting goalkeeper last season, even if Mamardashvili receives limited opportunities this year, the arrival of Tzolakis could complicate his return to the starting lineup.

While Alisson’s contract runs until 2027, suggesting he still has several years left in him, the club may see the Greece international as a potential future replacement. However, given Alisson’s recent performances, it’s difficult to envision the Reds parting ways with him anytime soon.

Although future planning is crucial for Liverpool, given that Alisson is only 33 years old, he has plenty of time left as Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper.

At this stage, Tzolakis’ future remains uncertain, but if Liverpool is serious about signing the Olympiakos star, the £17 million asking price is unlikely to deter them, especially if they view him as a significant prospect for the future.

The main concern, however, would be what to do with Mamardashvili, particularly after being labeled a “heroic” performer following his previous displays.
