West Bromwich Albion has named former striker Jason Roberts as a non-executive director.
The 48-year-old, who played for the Baggies from 2000 to 2004, will work alongside chairman Shilen Patel, director Ethan Gobetz, and executive director Mark Miles on the club’s board.
Albion announced that Roberts won’t be involved in the club’s daily operations but will provide “independent oversight and constructive feedback,” drawing on his “extensive experience in both English and international football” to guide club strategy, planning, and decision-making.
Roberts had a successful stint with Albion, scoring 27 goals in 100 appearances, before transferring to Wigan in January 2004. He also had significant spells in the Premier League with Portsmouth, Blackburn, and Reading, ultimately retiring in 2014.
“I am thrilled to join the board of a club that holds such a significant place in my family’s history,” Roberts stated.
“This is a pivotal moment for the football club, and I am honored to help shape its strategic direction for the future.”
Roberts will continue his role as head of football development at Concacaf while serving on the Albion board, having been with the FIFA confederation since 2017.
