Roma in Talks for Diego…

Roma has pinpointed Diego Moreira as their top target to enhance their left-back options, addressing one of the three key requests from coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

The 2004-born winger, currently with Strasbourg and participating in the World Cup for the Belgian national team, has previously caught the attention of both Gasperini and sporting director Tony D’Amico during their tenure at Atalanta.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the French club has pegged Moreira’s value at €40 million. However, Roma is hopeful about negotiating a lower price, considering the player’s desire to play in the Champions League and his readiness to significantly increase his current €800,000 salary.

The main hurdle for Roma is Chelsea, which shares ownership with Strasbourg under the BlueCo group and holds a buyback clause for the young Belgian defender.

Nonetheless, during recent talks concerning Alejandro Garnacho, it was revealed that Chelsea is not planning to block the move to Italy, as they are currently prioritizing the acquisition of Pep Chavarría from Rayo Vallecano based on coach Xabi Alonso’s recommendation.

Consequently, Roma is poised to wait for Belgium’s World Cup run to conclude before making a formal bid for Moreira.
