Cristian Chivu appears poised to give Ange-Yoan Bonny a starting position alongside Lautaro Martinez for Inter Milan’s upcoming match against Roma, following Marcus Thuram’s injury.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Parma striker has surpassed Francesco Pio Esposito in the selection hierarchy.

During the international break, Bonny remained at Appiano Gentile and showcased his sharpness and commitment.

“Chivu has rediscovered the humble, dedicated Bonny he recognized at Parma,” notes Gazzetta.

They also emphasize that the French player is the “natural choice” to replace Thuram.

The Inter coach sees Bonny as a more suitable partner for Lautaro, compared to Esposito, who tends to be used in different attacking combinations.

Bonny’s agility and capability to drop back align well with Thuram’s attributes.

In contrast, Esposito’s traditional striker profile is a better match for alternate tactical formations.

For Chivu, the decision hinges not just on fitness, but also on chemistry and tempo, where Bonny seems to have the advantage.
