Ronald Araujo Shares His…

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo made a triumphant return to the starting lineup for the first time in 2026 on Tuesday night, netting the decisive goal in the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Albacete. The Uruguayan international celebrated with manager Hansi Flick after his goal.

The 26-year-old had taken a break from Barcelona in December to focus on his mental well-being, following a red card received during a match against Chelsea in late November. Flick has gradually introduced Araujo back into action, with four substitute appearances totaling 30 minutes before giving him his first start in over two months against Albacete.

Araujo: ‘The goal is good for confidence’

After Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s loan departure, Araujo has been appointed as the team captain. He expressed that the victory has bolstered their confidence.

“Cup matches often come down to the wire,” he told RTVE, as reported by MD. “This goal is extremely important for our confidence and our growth. I was able to contribute offensively, which is crucial since we have strong headers in the squad.”
