Santiago Gimenez has officially joined FC Porto on a season-long loan from AC Milan, as confirmed by Porto on Monday.
The Mexican forward, who joined Milan for $43 million from Dutch side Feyenoord in January 2025, has struggled with injuries during his time at the club. He will play at Estadio do Dragao for the 2026-27 season and could secure a permanent transfer for $23.2 million if he meets certain performance criteria.
During his time at Milan, Gimenez found the net only seven times in 37 appearances in Serie A. His departure comes after new coach Ruben Amorim indicated that the striker would not feature in the team’s plans, especially with the recent signing of Portugal forward Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain.
Gimenez, now 25 years old, had a prolific stint at Feyenoord, scoring 65 goals in two-and-a-half seasons, before moving to Milan amid interest from Premier League clubs.
With Porto providing the opportunity to compete in the Champions League—starting with a home match against Manchester City on September 8—Gimenez welcomes the chance to potentially revive his career following a challenging period in Italy.
