Kasper Schmeichel has faced significant backlash from Celtic supporters due to some notable blunders, but he stepped up his game with his father in attendance, helping secure a victory at Falkirk.
With several crucial saves during a first half largely controlled by the Bairns, Schmeichel reminded fans of his father’s glory days by making a spectacular save to thwart substitute Ethan Williams’ close-range attempt for an equalizer after halftime.

Martin O’Neill expressed his dissatisfaction with his team’s overall performance, which was narrowly secured by a header from Benjamin Nygren just before halftime. However, he praised the 39-year-old Schmeichel for his efforts.
“We didn’t perform well today,” O’Neill commented. “We managed to get through, but we can certainly improve.”
“That said, there were some commendable performances. Kasper made an exceptional save for us, showcasing the skills he’s displayed throughout his career. It was particularly special with his dad in attendance. So, there you have it, following in his father’s footsteps—can’t be bad.”
Scottish football writer Stephen McGowan remarked that Schmeichel “owed” Celtic a standout performance after recent costly errors.

“There’s a common perception that Schmeichel may not be as fit or conditioned as he should be,” McGowan shared on the BBC’s Scottish football podcast.
“I can’t say for sure if that’s accurate, but judgments come swiftly in this part of the world—it’s just the nature of football culture here. He’s had a few notable errors recently, starting with the Scottish Cup final where a cross slipped past him, and he wasn’t at his best for the third goal conceded against Rangers, either.
So, I believe he owed Celtic a strong performance, and he delivered one last night. These players are there for a reason—they need to step up.”
