ScottishPower and Celtic…

The Dunfermline Athletic Community Club Girls U14s have received essential new equipment after being nominated for a prize giveaway by SWPL Principal Partner ScottishPower, thanks to Celtic player Morgan Cross.

This initiative follows similar support for Buchan Girls U14s, all part of ScottishPower’s commitment to empowering future generations in sports.

As a leading renewable energy company, ScottishPower sponsors both Scottish Women’s Football and the Scottish Women’s Premier League.

To support community clubs, the company is donating six kit packages to grassroots clubs, which include bibs, cones, water bottles, and Puma footballs. Additionally, 10 pairs of brand new Puma football boots will be provided to help clubs assist players facing financial barriers to participation.

ScottishPower encouraged SWPL1 and SWPL2 players who have risen through the grassroots ranks to visit and support community clubs that are pivotal in promoting the growth of women’s football.

Morgan Cross on the growth of women’s football in Fife

Kirkcaldy-born forward Morgan Cross, who honed her skills with Dunfermline U13s and U15s, chose her former club to receive the essential equipment. Now a player for Celtic, Cross visited the community club and presented tickets for an upcoming Celtic match to the U14s.

She attended a training session at Pitreavie Sports & Soccer Centre to deliver the kit alongside Cheryl Blenkinsop from ScottishPower.

“The growth of women’s football in Fife has been incredible. We have local role models like Caroline Weir, and I have wonderful memories from playing with Dunfermline—from my first 11-a-side game to my league win and Scotland call-up,” she shared. “Returning to Pitreavie and seeing the new astro pitches and improved facilities is fantastic for the girls, and I hope this growth continues.”

“It’s great that ScottishPower is providing kits for the girls. Many young female players don’t have access to the same quality of equipment as their male counterparts, so this investment is vital.”

‘The girls are thrilled’

Tom Milne, Football Development Officer with Dunfermline Athletic Community Club, remarked, “We have over 150 girls involved in our club. It’s important to offer opportunities for all girls to play, regardless of age or ability.”

“The girls are ecstatic about the new kit and the chance to watch Morgan play. Having a local role model inspires them and illustrates that a career in football is achievable.”

ScottishPower’s partnership aligns with its parent company, Iberdrola, which has been advocating for equality in sports since 2016 through competitions and federations in Spain and Brazil.
