Seamus Coleman Trains…

For several hours on Sunday, social media buzzed with rumours and speculation that Seamus Coleman had signed for a new team.

Not in association football, but with his local Gaelic football outfit, Killybegs.

The 37-year-old departed Everton at the end of last season, closing the book on a 17-year spell with the Premier League club.

The Republic of Ireland captain has been without a club since, despite playing in June’s international friendlies, and there were whispers of a dramatic switch back to Gaelic football.

The Donegal Senior Football Championship began on Saturday, and Killybegs visited Four Masters in their opener on Sunday afternoon, with Coleman watching on as a spectator at Pairc Tir Conaill.

Although he did not line out for his hometown club — contrary to the rumours — it is understood he has been training with Killybegs GAC to maintain fitness while he searches for a new football club.
