Serie A player Yael Trepy…

Cagliari striker Yael Trepy is in intensive care after losing consciousness in a swimming pool in Sardinia. The club said on Monday that the 20-year-old is being treated at Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari.

Trepy was airlifted to hospital on Sunday afternoon after being pulled from the water at a villa. BBC Sport understands he had been swimming with friends and is believed to have run into trouble after moving into a deeper section of the pool.

“ The club is in constant contact with the hospital and the player’s family and is closely monitoring his condition,” Cagliari said, adding that their thoughts are with Trepy and his loved ones and asking for privacy while promising updates when available.

Cagliari’s squad had the weekend off following Friday’s 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Arezzo, a match in which Trepy played 54 minutes. He scored once in eight Serie A outings last season, having come through Cagliari’s youth system. Trepy joined the club’s academy in 2022 after starting his youth career with Parisian side US Créteil-Lusitanos.
