Oumar Solet, a defender for Udinese, has shared insights on why he chose not to transfer to Napoli and commented on rumors linking him to Inter and Premier League teams. ‘My background as a midfielder makes playing with the ball feel natural.’
Solet, who joined Udinese as a free agent in January 2025, reflected on a potentially different trajectory in his career had Red Bull Salzburg been willing to sell him earlier.

“There was indeed communication with Napoli, but Red Bull Salzburg wasn’t inclined to let me go,” Solet told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

After resolving a contract dispute, Solet successfully transitioned to Udinese, where he has established a strong presence.
“I enjoy playing in Serie A; it’s one of the top three leagues globally. The competitive level has markedly improved in recent years, making it a highly tactical environment,” he stated.

When asked to reflect on his preferences between Serie A and the Premier League amidst interest from several clubs, including Newcastle United, he remarked, “Both leagues are unique; I am drawn to both for their high-level competitions, although I also appreciate La Liga and Ligue 1.”
Inter has emerged as a consistent contender for Solet’s services, viewing him as a potential successor to Alessandro Bastoni.

“While it’s flattering to be associated with top clubs, I’m fully focused on Udinese,” he confirmed. “I appreciate the trust the club has in me; I’m getting regular playing time and the chance to develop. This is crucial for me. Udinese has made me feel at home; I reside in a picturesque, calm city which helps me concentrate on my commitment.”

Inter is particularly keen on Solet due to his abilities as a ball-playing defender, capable of initiating plays from the back with accuracy.

“I transitioned from midfield to defense at 17, and my game has always included those qualities,” added the 26-year-old.
“In Italy, the focus tends to be on defense, and there’s often a reluctance to take risks. However, because of my history in midfield, handling the ball comfortably is second nature to me.
“I don’t shy away from risky passes; I prefer to perform what I do best. Sometimes, I notice there may be a lack of courage in moving forward in Italian football.”
Solet holds dual citizenship with France and the Ivory Coast, but has yet to commit to either nation.
“It’s a significant choice, and I want to ensure I make the right decision for my future,” he concluded.
