Arsenal is intensifying its pursuit of Bruno Guimarães, following indications that the midfielder is eager to join the club. However, negotiating a fee with Newcastle poses a major challenge, sources have informed ESPN.

Newcastle is reluctant to part with the 28-year-old but acknowledges that Guimarães has expressed a desire to move to the Premier League champions.

The Gunners have been monitoring Guimarães’ situation through intermediaries and are reportedly prepared to offer around £60 million ($80m). However, Newcastle has rejected the idea of a transfer at that price point.

Eddie Howe’s team is mindful of the implications of losing both Guimarães and Sandro Tonali in the same transfer window, especially after Tonali agreed to a deal of up to £100 million ($134m) to join Tottenham. Additionally, Anthony Gordon has already moved to Barcelona in a £69.3 million ($92.8m) transfer.

Newcastle is currently in discussions to secure Guimarães with a new contract, and the club is in a strong position given that his current deal runs through 2028 and includes a club option to extend for another year.

Arsenal has not yet initiated direct talks with Newcastle, and it remains to be seen whether Guimarães will try to force a transfer or if Newcastle will soften its stance.

Guimarães was part of the Brazil squad, which faced an unexpected early exit in the World Cup round-of-16 against Norway. He has made 153 Premier League appearances for Newcastle since joining from Lyon in January 2022.
