Sources indicate that Sabri Lamouchi expects to be dismissed as manager of Tunisia.

In their World Cup opener, Tunisia was overwhelmed with a 5-1 loss to Sweden, and they are set to face Japan and Netherlands next.

Following the heavy loss to Sweden, Lamouchi believes the Tunisian FA will terminate his contract merely one game into the tournament amid further unrest within the team.

When asked for a statement, the Tunisian FA simply acknowledged, “We have a problem with the coach,” without offering any further comments on Lamouchi’s situation.

Lamouchi, appointed in January, faced criticism before the tournament following a 5-0 defeat to Belgium in a friendly, which led to an emergency meeting of the federal bureau on Monday to discuss the head coach’s future.

His son’s presence at the training camp—despite being unofficial—also created distractions, requiring Lamouchi to justify his family’s involvement on multiple occasions.

The loss to Sweden was characterized by individual errors, starting with an early goal by Yasin Ayari capitalizing on a mistake by goalkeeper Mouhib Chamakh within the first seven minutes.

Shortly after, Alexander Isak doubled Sweden’s advantage in the 30th minute. Although Omar Rekik narrowed the gap just before halftime, Sweden regained their two-goal cushion shortly after through Viktor Gyökeres following another defensive blunder by Ellyes Skhiri. Goals from Mattias Svanberg and Ayari in the final moments capped a dismal display, with Chamakh again at fault.

The substitution of fullback Yan Valery in the 72nd minute led to visible frustration from the Sheffield Wednesday defender, highlighting the discontent within the squad.

If dismissed, this would mark the third consecutive World Cup misfortune for Lamouchi, who was a player cut from France’s squad before the 1998 World Cup and later led the Ivory Coast to a group stage exit in Brazil 16 years later.

Lamouchi made the controversial decision to drop experienced players Ferjani Sassi and Yassine Meriah from the World Cup squad, despite them having over 200 caps combined, as he sought to refresh the team’s dynamics following a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign earlier this year.
