Historic Victory: Expert…

Scott Brown on BBC One

The emotions are high, especially for the lads who have secured their first World Cup victory since 1990.

We are currently leading our group. While our performance wasn’t stellar, we fought hard to earn those three crucial points.

We did what we needed to do.

The most important thing was the result. However, looking back, our performance was quite subpar. In the second half, we were really on the defensive, and Haiti managed to put us under significant pressure with their play.

If they had possessed more quality in the final third, the outcome could have been very different. Their lack of finishing is why Scotland held on.

Steve Clarke will likely be pleased with the three points, but against stronger teams with better finishing, we won’t be able to survive like this.

This wasn’t the performance I anticipated, nor the one the players aimed for, but they got the win, and that’s what matters to the fans.

I didn’t expect a team ranked 83rd in the world to dominate us the way they did tonight.

Who knows? We might just surprise everyone when we face Brazil and Morocco.

We’ve never missed Billy Gilmour more than we did tonight. He’s essential for holding the ball, distributing passes, and maintaining our rhythm, especially in tight situations.

Additionally, we employed a 4-4-2 formation that left us outnumbered in midfield. This setup isn’t ideal for Scotland unless we’re up against much weaker teams, which we mistakenly thought Haiti was.

We won’t utilize that formation again in this World Cup, but I understand the reasoning behind it.

We’ve now recognized how vital Gilmour’s contributions are to our gameplay, which is quite exceptional.

While opponents may not be intimidated by Scotland, they don’t realize the potential we have to perform much better—that might just be our hidden strength.

James McFadden on BBC One

It’s not often that Scotland wins games in major tournaments.

Haiti presented challenges, yet our resilience is a testament to the unity formed within this group.

The next two matches will be tough, but the team has handled the pressure of this game well.

It wasn’t pretty, but I would have gladly accepted an ugly 1-0 victory prior to this match.

Rachel Corsie on BBC One

The midfielders’ performance was exceptional, and defensively, we were solid and hard to break down.

It’s a massive result—absolutely brilliant.
