Tottenham Hotspur recently had a bid of approximately £75 million ($100 million) turned down by
Newcastle United for
Sandro Tonali, according to sources close to ESPN.

The 26-year-old midfielder is a primary target for Spurs as they aim to strengthen their squad under manager Roberto de Zerbi after narrowly escaping relegation in the
Premier League last season.

Reports indicate that Newcastle is looking for a price closer to £100 million ($133 million) for the midfielder, who has three years left on his contract, with an option for an additional year.

Although Newcastle prefers that Tonali remains, there is mounting speculation that the
Italy international wishes to move on. Spurs have been reassured in initial discussions that he is interested in joining them, but
Manchester City is also believed to be keen on him.
Arsenal was approached as a potential destination in January.

Newcastle acquired Tonali from
AC Milan for £55 million ($73 million) three years ago.

While Tottenham’s offer did not meet Newcastle’s asking price, it reflects a significant change in the club’s approach to the summer transfer market.

The highest transfer fee Spurs previously paid was £65 million ($86 million) to Bournemouth for
Dominic Solanke in 2024, which included a base of £55 million and an additional £10 million in performance-related bonuses.

Spurs have already secured the signing of
Jan Paul van Hecke for £51.8 million ($68.8 million) from Brighton, in addition to acquiring
Andy Robertson and
Marcos Senesi on free transfers.
