Spalletti: Juventus…

Luciano Spalletti provided insights on Pierre Kalulu’s role at Juventus, discussed a fitness issue concerning Kenan Yildiz, and confirmed that the club has no interest in Mauro Icardi, currently at Galatasaray.

The Bianconeri dominated Parma at the Stadio Tardini this evening, securing a 4-1 victory. Centre-back Gleison Bremer scored twice, complemented by an acrobatic volley from Weston McKennie and a tap-in from Jonathan David.

Parma’s only goal came from an unfortunate own goal by Andrea Cambiaso following a cross from Alessandro Circati, while Lois Openda had a goal disallowed for offside during stoppage time.

“Statistics can be misleading since they often stem from static moments that don’t truly affect the outcome,” Spalletti shared with DAZN Italia. “Football is about sudden shifts in pace, duels, and second balls—where the more alert team can seize victory.”

In their post-match remarks, Gleison Bremer and Weston McKennie praised Spalletti for his unique coaching style, noting they had never encountered anyone like him before.

“It’s gratifying to hear that, but what matters most is fostering a team that loves playing football. This enables us to showcase the quality we demonstrated today. Players must stay engaged in the match, ready for every situation,” he continued.

“Every game is a learning step for us, part of an ongoing process. I always tell them to save their compliments for their teammates. This group has the potential to become a great team, driven by the unity and enjoyment evident in training and matches. They blend enthusiasm with determination, regardless of the challenges posed.”

Kalulu has been actively pushing forward on the right for Spalletti’s Juventus, resembling Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s style at Napoli, and assisted McKennie’s stunning volley.

“This position is essential to offer options and create confusion for the opposition’s defense. He possesses the knack for making runs at the right moment. A team must know when to transition rapidly from tight formations to an expansive layout, balancing short and long play,” Spalletti elaborated.

“As for Di Lorenzo, I wish him a speedy recovery—he deserves all the best. We were all saddened to see his injury. He excels at positioning between the lines and is a complete player; Kalulu is also developing toward that capability and is effective in dictating the rhythm for his teammates.”

Kenan Yildiz, who was rested during a midweek goalless Champions League draw against AS Monaco, started this match but had to exit at halftime due to a muscular issue.

“Yildiz informed us about some discomfort during the first half but felt he could continue until halftime,” Spalletti explained. “We trusted his judgment, but now he’s experiencing pain even while walking. We will assess his condition, but I don’t expect it to be serious. However, he might not be ready for Thursday.”

The transfer window closes tomorrow, and Juve has already made two signings today, bringing in Jeremie Boga from OGC Nice on loan and trading Joao Mario for Emil Holm from Bologna.

While still in search of a striker, director Giorgio Chiellini ruled out any deals for Mauro Icardi, Jean-Philippe Mateta, or Randal Kolo Muani before kickoff.

“I often get asked about players like Icardi and Osimhen in press conferences, so I can only speak positively about Icardi as a player during my time working with him,” Spalletti stated. “However, there were personal issues that affected the locker room that I had to address. When in a dressing room, it’s crucial to keep outside matters out.”

“I made a decision to exclude him from the team, resulting in his reaction. He’s a good guy, a lovely person, and a talented striker, but we do not want Icardi. Is that clear?”

“Whenever I speak favorably about someone, it makes headlines suggesting I want to sign him, but that’s not accurate. We’re seeking a player with specific qualities, and if we can’t find one, we’ll stick with our current squad. After all, McKennie has proven himself as an effective forward, as seen in tonight’s match.”
