The holders of the Scottish League Cup, St Mirren, secured their place in the top flight by defeating Partick Thistle in a tightly contested second leg of the Scottish Premiership Play-off Final.

Many St Mirren fans likely never anticipated the scenario of fighting to avoid relegation under interim manager Craig McLeish, especially after the team’s thrilling triumph over Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic at Hampden last December, which secured the Scottish League Cup under former boss Stephen Robinson.
With so much at stake, the first half was a tense standoff. Neither team could maintain a sustained attack, and clear chances were few and far between. Goalkeepers Ross Sinclair and Josh Clarke remained largely unchallenged as both defenses held firm.
Mikael Mandron came closest to scoring for St Mirren, sending a shot just wide late in the half, while Partick Thistle’s best chance fell to Ben McPherson, whose deflected attempt was comfortably collected by Sinclair.
St Mirren returned for the second half with much more urgency and intensity. Jake Young nearly broke the deadlock with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, forcing a spectacular save from Clarke, who tipped the ball over the bar.

Partick Thistle quickly responded with a solid opportunity of their own. Alex Samuel weaved through the Saints’ defense and fired a low shot towards the bottom-left corner, but Sinclair was quick to react, making an essential save to keep the match level.
Midway through the second half, Craig McLeish made tactical changes, bringing on club captain Mark O’Hara and Roland Idowu to alter the game’s dynamics, and it paid off within five minutes.
O’Hara delivered a precise free-kick to Marcus Fraser, who unleashed a thunderous shot that hit the crossbar and went in, giving St Mirren a crucial lead.
In a bid to find an equalizer, Mark Wilson sent on the seasoned Gary Mackay-Steven, and Partick Thistle came close to leveling the score in the 78th minute.
Logan Chalmers struck a fierce free-kick that Sinclair expertly saved, tipping it over the bar.

Partick pushed aggressively for an equalizer in the final ten minutes, but St Mirren defended resolutely to secure their victory and maintain their status in the Scottish Premiership.
