Still a Glimmer of Hope…

Reading captain Lewis Wing expressed that, despite recent setbacks, there is still a “glimmer of hope” for their chances of reaching the League One play-offs.

The Royals have three matches remaining and trail Stevenage, who currently hold the sixth spot, by five points.

Initially optimistic about securing a place in the top six, Reading’s performance has declined in their last three games, suffering two defeats and settling for a draw, now placing them in 10th position.

“We’re quite disheartened that it seems the play-offs may be slipping away,” Wing told BBC Radio Berkshire.

“However, there’s still a bit of hope left; it’s not over yet. We’re completely focused on these final three matches, aiming to earn as many points as we can and see where that leaves us.”

“The training standards have elevated this week, and we’re preparing to be ready for Cardiff this weekend.”

Reading faced Lincoln when they had their promotion confirmed earlier this month, and on Saturday, they could potentially see Cardiff City promoted if the results favor the Bluebirds.

Reading’s last two matches are scheduled away against relegated Rotherham, followed by a season finale at home against Blackpool.

“It’s football; there are always ups and downs, and how we handle these moments is crucial. Overall, we need to perform a little better,” Wing noted.

“It’s a collective effort from the team and the club as a whole.

“Although we’re disappointed, there is still hope.”
