Following their disappointing exit from the Europa League on Thursday, the players from VfB Stuttgart unanimously echoed their admiration for Porto’s goalkeeper, Diogo Costa. Stuttgart’s head coach, Sebastian Hoeneß, along with goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, captain Atakan Karazor, and recently re-called German international striker Deniz Undav, all commended the Portuguese star for his exceptional performance in the post-match discussions.
Praise for Diogo Costa from Stuttgart
“We had several good opportunities and numerous shots on goal,” Hoeneß remarked to RTL+ after the match. “But you really have to give credit to the opposing keeper, who was undoubtedly the best player on the field today.“

“He [Costa] was outstanding,” Karazor noted in the mixed zone. “We faced some bad luck at the back. The [1-0] was just unfortunate. That doesn’t happen often.“
“It really hurts because we performed well in both matches,” stated Nübel in a press briefing. “Today, he [Costa] truly surpassed himself on what was clearly his best day.“
“He was remarkable,” Undav shared. “He even saved shots that perhaps didn’t require saving. He’s not only impressive on goal; his ability to distribute the ball and his calmness in doing so is outstanding.
“He was undoubtedly the MVP of both matches,” Undav concluded.
