For just the second time in the club’s history, Telstar has advanced to the semi-finals of the KNVB Cup. The past year has been remarkable for Telstar, who made a surprising return to the Eredivisie through the playoffs last season, and they have now defeated the reigning KNVB Cup champions, Go Ahead Eagles. This marks their first appearance in the KNVB Cup semi-finals since the 1991/1992 season.
The last time Telstar reached this stage, they triumphed over USV Elinkwijk, RKC Waalwijk, FC Eindhoven, and HFC Haarlem, only to be defeated by Rode JC in the semi-final. That season, Feyenoord went on to win the KNVB Cup, securing a 3-0 victory in the final.
In a stunning upset last season, Go Ahead Eagles captured the cup title, overcoming AZ in the final thanks to a late equalizer that pushed the match into extra time. The Eagles ultimately claimed the KNVB Cup after winning in a penalty shootout.
This year’s semi-finals features an all-Eredivisie lineup, with AZ returning to this stage, alongside NEC Nijmegen and PSV, joining Telstar in the quest for a spot in the KNVB Cup final.
