It’s uncommon for Hibs to have a goalless draw, let alone two in a row, but here we find ourselves.
Neither team appeared capable of scoring in last Saturday’s stalemate at Fir Park.
It was a match where it would have been appreciated if the fourth official had revealed the number of minutes wasted due to tedium at the end, rather than adding time on.
In the previous week, we had over 20 shots against Livingston, leaving me wondering how we hadn’t found the back of the net. This past Saturday, I was left questioning how we would ever manage to score.
While it’s easy to blame the strikers when the team fails to score, Hibs’ tendency to attack predominantly down the left puts enormous pressure on Nicky Cadden to perform—both literally and figuratively—and renders us predictable for opponents.
David Gray needs to either diversify the tactics or ensure his players adhere to his suggestions of exploring options on the right side or even through the middle to create more chances.
Saturday’s match was dull, predictable, and uninspiring. I’m sure Motherwell fans would echo the same sentiment.
The upcoming international break comes at a crucial moment; I hope Gray and his coaching staff utilize this time to introduce some variety in our attacking play.
