Vinicius Brace Propels…

Manchester City suffered a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, resulting in a 5-1 aggregate score.

Alvaro Arbeloa has made history as the first Madrid manager to achieve victory in each of his initial four knockout stage matches in the tournament’s history.

Madrid posed the first threat of the match when Gianluigi Donnarumma came off his line to deny Federico Valverde.

City quickly replied; Jeremy Doku’s shot struck Thibaut Courtois, who then deflected Rodri’s follow-up shot out for a corner.

In the 21st minute, Bernardo Silva received a red card for a handball that prevented a clear scoring opportunity, allowing Vinicius Junior to convert the subsequent penalty and put Madrid ahead.

Erling Braut Haaland had a chance to level the score, but Courtois made the save.

Haaland managed to equalize in the 41st minute, expertly finishing from Doku’s cross that fell perfectly into his path.

In the second half, Haaland tested substitute goalkeeper Andriy Lunin early on with a strong shot.

At the other end, Donnarumma produced a brilliant save, deflecting Aurelien Tchouameni’s header over the bar.

Lunin showcased his reflexes by stopping a powerful shot from Rayan Ait-Nouri in the 78th minute.

Vinicius secured the win for Madrid in stoppage time, volleying Tchouameni’s precise delivery past Donnarumma.

Los Blancos will now face either Bayern Munich or Atalanta in the quarter-finals.
