Walton Needs to Seize His…

Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom has expressed uncertainty regarding the duration of first-choice goalkeeper Daniel Iversen’s absence due to a groin injury sustained in training this week. This has opened the door for Jack Walton, who stepped in during the recent 1-0 loss to Derby County at Deepdale.

Speaking to BBC Radio Derby, Heckingbottom encouraged Walton to take full advantage of this opportunity while Iversen is recovering.

“He’s had two successful seasons at Dundee, earning promotion and performing admirably. This is a significant chance for him,” he remarked.

“Although we’ve played him in cup matches, it’s been a while since he featured in league games, but that’s why he’s here.”

Heckingbottom admitted disappointment with the result and acknowledged his team’s inability to capitalize on the chances they created during the match.

“I believed we handled Derby quite well,” he commented. “They are a strong, aggressive side, just as I expected. However, we failed to make the most of the crucial moments we had.”

“Our best opportunities came on the counterattack, but we didn’t manage to produce an effective final pass or a shot.”
