When Paul Pogba Nearly…

When Paris Saint-Germain squares off against AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, Paul Pogba (32) will be absent from the lineup for both teams, despite currently being under contract with Monaco.

La Pioche joined the Principality club on a two-year deal last summer, following the conclusion of his doping suspension. He has accumulated just over 30 minutes of playing time across three matches and has not appeared in a game since early December.

Consequently, he has been removed from Monaco’s Champions League roster. Even so, he would not have been available to compete against PSG in the second leg of the playoff, where Les Monégasques aim to overcome a one-goal deficit (2-3).

Interestingly, he could have been representing Les Parisiens instead. According to reports from L’Équipe, in the winter of 2022, as his contract with Manchester United was closing, Pogba attracted interest from Juventus, Real Madrid, and PSG. Sources within the Ligue 1 club indicate that it was Pogba who initiated contact with PSG. Nevertheless, discussions with then-sporting director Leonardo ultimately fizzled out, and PSG chose to conclude their “bling-bling” project. Subsequently, Pogba returned to Juventus that summer.
