Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare was involved in an incident that led to a training session being called off after he allegedly stayed on the pitch when asked to leave. The club has turned down an offer from Fiorentina for the forward, having already accepted a bid from Trabzonspor.
Arokodare denies refusing to train, but sources say he joined a session he wasn’t scheduled to take part in. He did not feature in Wednesday’s pre-season friendly at Maidenhead United.
Posting on social media later that day, Arokodare said he has always prided himself on professionalism and high training standards, adding that he intends to honour his Wolves contract by training properly and contributing to the team whenever called upon.
It is the latest flashpoint in his time at Molineux; he was disciplined in April after a confrontation with young forward Mateus Mane. Signed from Genk for £24m last summer, Arokodare scored three league goals as Wolves finished bottom of the Premier League and were relegated.
The situation presents an early test for new head coach Peixoto, who replaced Rob Edwards last month. The 46-year-old, capped once by Portugal, arrived from Gil Vicente and is aiming to guide Wolves back to the top flight at the first attempt.
