According to BBC Radio Lancashire, Preston North End has accepted a transfer bid from Wrexham for their captain, Ben Whiteman. This development follows Whiteman informing manager Paul Heckingbottom that he had “played his last game” for the team.
Whiteman, who joined Preston from Doncaster Rovers in 2021, has made 224 appearances for the Lilywhites since his arrival.
However, it appears the 30-year-old is set to leave Deepdale under less than favorable circumstances.
“Ben was aware there was a boundary I didn’t want him to cross, and unfortunately, he has,” Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Lancashire before Wrexham’s bid was placed.
“There’s a price tag on him; I just hope for Ben’s sake that Wrexham is ready to meet it. Otherwise, he’s put himself in a difficult position.
“He’s made his choice. I’m not concerned as long as I can bring in another player.”
