Wayne Phillips, the former Wrexham winger, expressed disappointment following the Red Dragons’ loss to Hull City on Tuesday night, stating that the team simply “wasn’t good enough” and emphasizing the need for a strong comeback.
Wrexham found themselves two goals down shortly after the hour mark, with Welsh international Lewis Koumas adding to Hull’s tally.

In an interview with BBC Radio Cymru, Phillips noted that the issues arose long before Hull’s second goal.
“In simple terms, too many players underperformed last night,” he remarked. “That was evident from the first 10 to 20 minutes. Their passing was subpar, which is unusual for Wrexham.”
Nathan Broadhead did provide a glimmer of hope for Wrexham by netting his sixth goal of the season, reminiscent of Alejandro Garnacho’s recent strike against Chelsea.
“The goal in the second half gave them a little bit of hope,” Phillips acknowledged.

However, he added, “Over the course of the 95 minutes, they didn’t earn a point or anything more from the match.”
Despite this setback, Phil Parkinson’s squad remains well-positioned within the playoff spots, three points ahead of Derby County and just six points behind Hull City.
Additionally, fellow Welsh team Swansea City has been rising in the rankings, and a win in their upcoming all-Welsh match on March 13 could bring them within two points of Wrexham.
Phillips remains optimistic about a response from his former team in the derby: “That’s what they do—when they face defeats, they bounce back,” he stated.

“The upcoming match won’t be easy, just as the next nine games will be challenging. But it’s certainly an exciting matchup to anticipate.”
“Swansea had a solid victory against Portsmouth, who recently proved tough here. However, I’m hopeful Wrexham will find a way to respond after the loss tonight.”
