Phil Parkinson acknowledged that Watford’s exceptional counter-attacking strategy marked the end of Wrexham’s six-match unbeaten streak on the road.

In a dominant first half at Vicarage Road, the Hornets surged ahead thanks to goals from Marc Bola and Edo Kaymebe, both scored during swift breaks.

Wrexham faced significant pressure after halftime as Max Cleworth gave them hope with a goal, but Edoardo Bove clinched the win for Ed Still’s side in stoppage time.

“It was really frustrating that both goals came after we had good opportunities close to their box,” Parkinson remarked.

“I thought we performed brilliantly in the second half. We were close to finding that second goal; it felt like it was just around the corner.”

“We gained good control over the game. While we were a bit disjointed and made several technical mistakes in the first half, we eliminated those errors after the break.”

“Our play became more consistent, and we effectively used our wing-backs, but we simply couldn’t find the moment to secure the second goal that our performance warranted.”

Despite the loss, the Red Dragons maintain their position in sixth place, three points ahead of seventh-placed Southampton—who have a match in hand—before Saturday’s encounter with Sheffield United (15:00 GMT).

Parkinson expressed pride in his team’s second-half performance, despite it being their second defeat in three league matches.

“Sometimes, players don’t perform at their best for various reasons, and some of them fell short today,” the Wrexham manager stated.

“However, we need to stay resilient and work through these challenges. It’s frustrating, but I’m encouraged by how the lads responded in the second half; I thought we were outstanding.”
