Xabi Alonso Declines…

It has been six weeks since Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid mutually parted ways after his brief seven-month tenure as head coach. Although his time at the Bernabeu ended on a less-than-ideal note, his reputation remains strong, and a return to management may happen sooner than anticipated.

Currently one of the most sought-after managers in the market, Alonso is attracting considerable interest. Recently, Marseille explored the possibility of hiring him following the departure of Roberto De Zerbi.

According to RMC Sport (via MD), Marseille reached out to Alonso after accepting De Zerbi’s resignation. However, the 44-year-old declined their offer, choosing not to return to management with the Ligue 1 club, which subsequently appointed Habib Beye as head coach.

Alonso Expected to Be in Demand This Summer

Alonso’s recent exit from Real Madrid is still fresh in his mind, and it’s understandable that he is taking his time before diving back into management. It’s likely he will wait until at least summer, especially with potential opportunities on the horizon.

Moreover, Liverpool has reportedly identified him as a candidate to replace Arne Slot should he be dismissed, and the Manchester City position might also open up if Pep Guardiola opts to conclude his decade-long tenure at the Etihad Stadium.

Given his track record, Alonso would be a strong contender for both roles, but additional opportunities could arise in the near future. For now, he appears to be enjoying his time away from the game, although he is likely keeping an eye on potential roles, particularly the Liverpool position, which holds significant appeal due to his connection with the club.
