York City have parted ways with manager Stuart Maynard, just three months after he led the club back to the English Football League following a 10-year absence.
In a social media statement, the board said the decision was difficult but stemmed from a difference in direction and vision for the club.
York secured the National League title in April with a dramatic equaliser in the 13th minute of second-half stoppage time against rivals Rochdale, who would have won the title with a victory. The Minstermen finished on 108 points, having appointed former Notts County boss Maynard in August 2025 to replace Adam Hinshelwood.
The board acknowledged the move may seem surprising but said they believe it will strengthen the club in the long term and aligns with their plan for sustained success. They asked for supporters’ trust, noting that not everyone will agree with or immediately understand the decision.
York host Crawley Town in a Carabao Cup preliminary-round tie on Monday, 3 August, before opening their League Two campaign at home to Bristol Rovers 12 days later.
