Roma swiftly dispatched Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox, with early goals from Matias Soulé and Lorenzo Pellegrini ensuring a confident Europa League win.
Under pressure after consecutive Europa League defeats at home to Lille and Viktoria Plzen, alongside two losses in four Serie A games, the Giallorossi were eager to secure points. They faced challenges with injuries to key players including Paulo Dybala, Leon Bailey, Evan Ferguson, and Angelino, and Tommaso Baldanzi was not eligible. Meanwhile, Rangers, under new management with Danny Röhl, aimed to improve their form but had not yet secured a win in their three Europa League fixtures. Rabbi Matondo, Dujon Sterling, and Kieran Dowell were also unavailable for this match.

From the outset, the Giallorossi commanded the match and took the lead when Lorenzo Pellegrini’s corner was deflected on by Bryan Cristante, allowing Matias Soulé to head in at the back post—his inaugural goal in UEFA competition.

Following that, Youssef Chermiti capitalized on a Kostas Tsimikas mistake, racing down the right but sending his shot wide of target. Jack Butland was pressed into action soon after, expertly parrying a shot from Soulé at the near post. Roma soon extended their lead when Artem Dovbyk set up Pellegrini, who finished with accuracy into the bottom corner from 14 yards.

The first notable threat from Rangers came in the 39th minute when Gassama was brought down, leading to a close call that was narrowly saved by Mile Svilar. Gianluca Mancini then made a crucial block to deny Moore. Soulé’s quick reaction earned him another opportunity, missing just wide after a Dovbyk lay-off. After the break, Hermoso thwarted a quick effort from Chermiti, with Raskin’s follow-up failing to find the net.
Roma almost scored a third in the 70th minute during a chaotic sequence where Tsimikas’s poor volley inadvertently set up Zeki Celik, whose shot hit the crossbar from close range.
Final Score: Rangers 0-2 Roma
Goals: Soulé 13′ (Roma), Pellegrini 37′ (Roma)
