Zaccagni Making Swift…

Mattia Zaccagni has made notable strides in his recovery from injury, and Lazio is optimistic that their captain will be fit for the Coppa Italia semi-final against Atalanta.

The 30-year-old has delivered four goals and one assist in 25 competitive matches this season, but a severe thigh strain sidelined him a few weeks ago.

This injury forced him to miss international duty ahead of the 2026 World Cup play-offs, with expectations of a month-long recovery.

Italy’s coach Gennaro Gattuso confirmed that Zaccagni was intended to join the team traveling to Bosnia and Herzegovina for moral support, alongside other injured players Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Guglielmo Vicario.

However, he had to stay in Rome for a scheduled medical evaluation with the Lazio staff, which yielded some encouraging news.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the tests indicated that the muscle in his right thigh is healing faster than anticipated.

Zaccagni is now hopeful of making a timely return to play in the Coppa Italia semi-final against Atalanta on April 22.

The first leg finished in a 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico, setting the stage for an exciting second leg.
