Walsall has announced the release of 12 players, including Aiden Flint, Jamille Matt, Brandon Comley, and Charlie Lakin, following the conclusion of the League Two season.
Flint, a 36-year-old center-back, joined from Mansfield Town on a one-year contract last summer and played in all but two matches this season as Walsall finished 13th, 13 points shy of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, striker Matt, also 36, made 140 appearances and netted 23 goals after transferring from Forest Green Rovers in January 2023.
Comley, a midfielder, enjoyed a four-season stint at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium, where he accumulated 151 appearances.
Having arrived from Burton Albion two years ago, Lakin, 26, scored five goals in his 97 appearances for the club.
Other players leaving the club include Jamie Jellis, Priestley Farquharson, Dylan Thomas, Charlie Wragg, Alfie Chang, Evan Weir, Jake Hollman, and Josh Gordon.
The Saddlers are currently in talks to extend the contracts of veteran forward Albert Adomah and former Birmingham academy player Rico Browne.
Adomah, who turns 39 in December, has become a fan favorite since joining from Queens Park Rangers two seasons ago, appearing in 51 games this season and starting in all but one match under Darren Byfield‘s management at the end of the year.
Defender Browne, 22, played a total of 28 matches across competitions after signing a one-year contract in September 2024, with an option for another year.
Walsall has also opted to extend the contracts of emerging goalkeeper Jenson Kilroy and right-back Elicha Ahui, who is returning from a lengthy knee injury layoff.
As for head coach Byfield, the club has yet to finalize decisions on his future, following his appointment until the season’s end after Mat Sadler was sacked in March.
