Everton has announced that club icon Seamus Coleman will depart Merseyside at the conclusion of the current season.
Having spent 17 seasons with the Toffees, Coleman has played nearly 400 matches in the Premier League.
The Ireland international joined from Sligo Rovers in 2009 and has established himself as one of the club’s all-time greats.

In a statement on Everton’s official website, Coleman expressed, “After more than 17 years at this wonderful football club, I’ve made the decision that this season will be my last as a player here.”
“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the fans for their incredible support. You’ve impacted my life in ways you can’t imagine. I’ve always tried to prioritize Everton Football Club, and you all mean everything to me. Living in the city, I see you daily, and I’ve taken your passion for the club back into the dressing room, making sure the lads understand how much Everton means to the community.”
“I’m also thankful for my managers, teammates, and all the staff at Everton. They have witnessed me through happy, sad, angry, and emotional times, but the core essence has always been Everton Football Club. Thank you for helping me grow as a captain and teammate. This is an incredible football club filled with remarkable people.”

“Following such a significant decision, I plan to take some time over the summer to reflect on what lies ahead for me and my family. My love for Everton is well known, and I also carry a great affection for Ireland as well.
“The club has been exceptionally supportive, offering me the chance to continue at Everton. The manager and staff have been fantastic, and given the importance of this decision regarding my future, I’m planning a nice, long holiday to reflect on what has truly been an amazing journey as an Everton footballer.”
Coleman will take part in his final home game this Sunday against Sunderland.
