Former Hull City and QPR…

RKC Waalwijk is preparing to sign former Hull City and QPR defender Jordy de Wijs on a free transfer. The 31-year-old Dutch defender is departing Fortuna Düsseldorf after the team’s surprising relegation from Bundesliga 2 this past weekend. With his contract due to expire this summer and limited appearances this season, his exit from Germany seemed inevitable. De Wijs joined Fortuna in 2022 from QPR and delivered several solid performances, but injuries and coaching decisions ultimately left him out of the lineup.

Waalwijk is bringing back an experienced defender, as de Wijs was a part of their youth academy before moving to PSV. Before his 2018 stint at Hull City, de Wijs made five appearances for the PSV first team and had two loan spells at Excelsior. He played over 70 matches during his two seasons at Hull City and then transferred to QPR for the 2020/2021 season, where he appeared in 22 games before moving to Fortuna.
