As the Real Madrid presidential election approaches this Sunday, the two contenders are strategizing to win over the club’s members. Incumbent Florentino Perez has committed to making a major signing, with reports suggesting the target is Michael Olise, should he be re-elected. In contrast, Enrique Riquelme has promised to bring Erling Haaland to the Bernabeu.
Aiming to end Perez’s 17-year leadership, Riquelme has hinted at a potential managerial change as well. While Jose Mourinho would remain if the current administration continues, it has been revealed that Jurgen Klopp is the preferred choice if Riquelme comes to power, according to statements reported by Diario AS.
“If Raúl oversees the sports division, he would lead this decision. Raúl has consistently suggested a coach who has significantly impacted world football — a man who has secured the Champions League, revived Liverpool’s stature in Europe and England, and elevated Borussia Dortmund against larger teams. He has instilled an invaluable identity, character, leadership, and a culture of winning based on teamwork wherever he has been,” Riquelme stated.
“We are discussing one of the premier coaches of our era — a leader capable of restoring the competitive edge, daily standards, professionalism, meritocracy, and unity within the dressing room that have always defined Real Madrid’s most glorious periods. That coach is Jürgen Klopp. Although we acknowledge that Klopp has publicly expressed no desire to return to management soon, spurning numerous offers, we believe Real Madrid’s challenge is unique. There are many great clubs, but only one Real Madrid.”

Since Xabi Alonso’s departure in January, Klopp has frequently been linked with the Real Madrid role, but consistently denies any plans to return to coaching. If Riquelme succeeds in the election, he may face considerable challenges in securing his preferred candidate, making it likely that alternative plans will be necessary.
