Sunderland Engaged in a Three

In a recent update on X, journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that Sunderland is in a competitive three-way race to secure Neom midfielder Amadou Kone. The Black Cats will need to contend with interest from Nottingham Forest and AS Roma as they pursue the Ivory Coast talent this summer.

Kone’s Impressive Season in the Saudi Pro League

Kone stood out during his time in Neom’s midfield last season, scoring twice and providing one assist in 33 appearances across various competitions. The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the brightest young midfielders in the Saudi Pro League, making him an attractive target for Sunderland this offseason.

However, Kone’s contract with Neom extends until the summer of 2029, which could complicate Sunderland’s efforts to negotiate a budget-friendly deal during this transfer window.

Is Kone the Right Fit for Sunderland’s Regis Le Bris?

Kone is known for his tough tackling and ability to read the game effectively, which allows him to win back possession for his team. He is not afraid to clear threats when necessary and displays solid passing skills. Although primarily a defensive midfielder, Kone also has the versatility to contribute as a box-to-box or attacking midfielder.

Time will reveal if he can adapt smoothly to the Premier League should Sunderland successfully sign him this summer. Kone would bring added strength and tenacity to head coach Regis Le Bris’ midfield, positioning himself as a contender for a regular starting role at the Stadium of Light in the seasons to come.

At just 21 years old, Kone has a promising future ahead and could prove to be a valuable long-term acquisition for the Black Cats. Considering all these factors, it would be prudent for Le Bris to pursue a player of Kone’s caliber during this summer transfer window.
