Benfica Officially…

Jose Mourinho is poised to make his return to Real Madrid, as Benfica has officially confirmed that the necessary procedures for appointing the Portuguese coach have been completed.

This move marks a significant fulfillment of one of Florentino Perez’s key promises from his election campaign, which includes Real Madrid paying €15 million to trigger Mourinho’s release clause and facilitate his comeback to Santiago Bernabeu.

Anticipation is high for Mourinho’s return, especially considering the impactful tenure he had with the club from 2010 to 2013.

Benfica Announces Mourinho’s Departure

The agreement became official following a statement from Benfica, confirming that Real Madrid had finalized the appointment process for Mourinho.

The Portuguese club stated, “Benfica SAD has informed the CMVM that Real Madrid CF has formalized its intention to sign José Mourinho for €15 million, with the coach having given his consent.”

“Thank you, José Mourinho.”

Real Madrid’s payment of €15 million has allowed Mourinho to leave Benfica, where he was still under contract until 2027.

While this marks Mourinho as the first key signing of the new presidential term, it is unlikely to be the last, with additional reinforcements already in the pipeline as part of Perez’s strategic plans for the squad.

To date, Real Madrid has secured the signing of Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer from Liverpool, along with Denzel Dumfries, who was signed following the activation of his €20 million release clause.

Despite these recent additions, further arrivals are anticipated this summer.
