Scott McTominay, the Napoli star, was notably absent from the Scotland national team’s bus upon their arrival in Boston on Thursday, missing training due to an upset stomach. Meanwhile, Billy Gilmour took the time to visit his teammates.
Scotland is set to kick off their 2026 World Cup campaign on June 14 at 3:00 AM (CET) against Haiti, but concerns are growing regarding McTominay’s condition as they prepare for the match.
Updates on McTominay’s Condition
According to reports from the BBC and various UK media, McTominay arrived separately from the rest of the Scottish squad at their Boston hotel on Thursday, causing him to miss a training session.
The midfielder traveled with the medical staff, and it appears to be a precautionary action, as noted by the BBC.
In a recent Serie A match on May 24, McTominay faced off against Jakub Piotrowski of Udinese Calcio.

Scotland midfielder Kenny McLean addressed McTominay’s situation during a press conference: “Hopefully, that doesn’t spread. Fingers crossed Scott will be fine. I’m sure he will be,” he stated.
“I don’t need to elaborate too much on him; everyone knows how important he is.
“It’s a collective effort, as it always is, but when you have exceptional players like him, you want them available. I’m confident he will be.”
On the other hand, McTominay’s teammate Gilmour was seen spending time with his fellow teammates at the hotel leading up to their World Cup debut this weekend.
Gilmour’s Visit to the Scotland Team
Although Gilmour was expected to play for the Scottish team in the World Cup, he had to withdraw due to an injury sustained during a pre-tournament friendly against Curacao.

“He clearly wants to engage with the team and enjoy the ambiance with the fans and overall atmosphere,” McLean remarked via The Independent.
“He truly deserves much more, and there will be plenty of opportunities for Billy ahead. I know that’s not the most comforting thought right now, but it’s true.
“He’s a remarkable talent, an outstanding young man, and it’s great to see him.”
