SCO Angers have secured the signing of experienced Ligue 1 goalkeeper Anthony Lopes (35) on a free transfer after his contract with FC Nantes came to an end.
Having progressed through the youth system at Olympique Lyonnais, Lopes spent the majority of his professional career with Les Gones before making a move last summer to Nantes on a free transfer. Despite some standout performances, he was unable to stop Les Canaris from being relegated to Ligue 2.
Now, the Portugal international (14 caps) is set for a new chapter at SCO Angers, having signed a two-year contract with the club. On Monday, the team announced his arrival, adding to their roster an accomplished goalkeeper who has made 427 appearances in Ligue 1 throughout his career.
Lopes will be replacing Hervé Koffi, the Burkina Faso international who was on loan from RC Lens last season and boasted the best post-shot expected goals figures among Europe’s top five leagues. Lopes has big shoes to fill.
