Real Madrid’s summer roster revamp under Jose Mourinho has largely focused on new signings, but now the club must shift its attention to reducing its oversized squad.
Among those potentially on the move is Raul Asencio, as reported by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

Romano notes that with Real Madrid’s squad size currently exceeding limits, the club must facilitate several exits before the transfer window closes.
In this context, Asencio has been singled out as a player the club is willing to sell this summer.
However, Romano points out that there are currently no imminent developments. No agreements have been reached, either from the player or the club, leaving any potential transfer at an early stage.
Asencio reportedly intends to stay and compete for his spot, but the club’s readiness to entertain offers adds complexity to his situation.

Creating space for new additions

Real Madrid has already bolstered its defense with new signings like Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries, and Marc Cucurella has strengthened the left-back position.
With Mourinho eager to acquire at least one more center-back, it’s essential to clear some space within the crowded defensive lineup.
Players such as Alessandro Bastoni and Nico Schlotterbeck have also been mentioned in transfer discussions, and offloading players like Asencio is viewed as a crucial move to pave the way for further reinforcements.

For Asencio, the next few weeks could be critical. While he hopes to stay and impress Mourinho, the reality of Real Madrid’s need to balance their squad may dictate otherwise.
His agent, Manuel Diaz, has a solid working relationship with Mourinho’s representative, Jorge Mendes, which could facilitate a potential transfer should negotiations begin.
At present, however, Asencio’s future remains uncertain, with the club open to a sale but lacking any formal offers at this time.
