Mowbray: Everything the…

According to captain Todd Cantwell, Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray is an ideal choice for the club.

Mowbray returned to Ewood Park for a second time when he was appointed in June.

Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire, Cantwell stated, “What this changing room needed most was a manager like Tony—someone who understands the players and has a clear vision, along with strong interpersonal skills.” He emphasized the need for adaptation for new players who are unfamiliar with England, particularly since many are still new to the league and the country. This is especially crucial when struggling at the bottom of the league, as time for adjustment is limited.

“Thus, it’s a delicate balancing act. I truly believe the manager will lead Blackburn into some exciting times ahead,” he added.

Last season, Rovers ended up in 20th place in the Championship, just five points outside the relegation zone following the sacking of head coach Valerien Ismael in February. They then appointed Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.

O’Neill turned down the chance to take the role permanently, which led to Mowbray being hired after more than a year away from management, following his sacking by West Brom in April 2025.

“He embodies everything the club needs,” Cantwell stated. “He brings a wealth of experience and understands the club’s unique challenges, having coached here before.”
