Fans Divided Over New…

The Sunderland fanbase is currently engaged in a lively discussion regarding the club’s new membership scheme, which has quickly become a contentious topic.

With this new initiative, Sunderland stands as the only Premier League club without a membership system that provides any form of ticket priority, in contrast to Bournemouth.

Nick Barnes from BBC Radio Newcastle shed light on the situation, stating, “The scheme is accessible to all supporters and offers three tiers, each with different benefits based on the chosen category.”

“Annual fees range from £20 to £48. Membership schemes are a common practice among Premier League clubs, as they help connect with supporters internationally. However, the scheme also aims to give members priority access to tickets, which is where some disagreement arises. From my observations on social media discussions, it’s clear that opinions are divided.”

“Some fans appreciate the opportunity for better access to away match tickets via a ballot, while it’s important to note that those with Black Cat points still maintain priority for 90% of away tickets. Still, the scheme benefits season card holders who may not attend many away games, giving them a chance to purchase tickets and paving the way for a new generation to earn Black Cat points.”

“Concerns have been raised by fans about acquiring multiple tickets, especially regarding whether they can sit together if they do.”

“For those without a season card, securing tickets for home matches necessitates joining the scheme under the Black Cats adult or academy category, as the waiting list is currently closed. However, membership will secure you a position on that waiting list.”
