New Watford manager Alessio Dionisi has announced that central defender Mattie Pollock will serve as the club’s captain for the upcoming season.
Last season, Pollock shared captaincy responsibilities with key midfielder Imran Louza, who made a brief 20-minute appearance during Wednesday’s 1-0 pre-season friendly loss to Fiorentina at Vicarage Road.

“Mattie is vital to this team, and I’m very pleased for him. His mentality is excellent—he gives his all on the pitch every day,” Dionisi told BBC Three Counties Radio. “He communicates effectively with his teammates. Mattie is a strong choice for captain.”
Dionisi, who was appointed as the club’s head coach last month, also addressed Louza’s desire to seek opportunities elsewhere over the summer, although he may still remain with the team.
He stated, “At the beginning of pre-season, Louza was exploring other options. Right now, he is part of the team and remains an excellent player. Although he arrived late for pre-season, I hope he can regain his fitness as he will be crucial for us.”
