Watford Secures Permanent Signing of Aoibheann Clancy from Republic of Ireland

This afternoon, WSL Full-Time was notified through an official press release from The Golden Girls that Watford has finalized the acquisition of Republic of Ireland international midfielder Aoibheann Clancy on a permanent basis.

The 22-year-old joins Watford after a successful stint with Shelbourne in the SSE Airtricity League Women’s Premier Division. According to reports, the club has agreed to an undisclosed fee to bring Clancy to Vicarage Road.

Clancy began her senior career at Wexford Youths, where she made over 100 competitive appearances before transferring to Shelbourne in 2025, where she has garnered acclaim for her performances.

During her career, Clancy has secured the FAI Women’s Cup and has been recognized as the SSE Airtricity League Women’s Premier Division Player of the Year. Recently, she also celebrated victory in the All-Island Cup.

On the international front, Clancy has earned one senior cap for the Republic of Ireland, which she achieved in 2022.

Clancy marks Watford’s tenth signing of the summer transfer window, as The Golden Girls actively bolster their roster in preparation for a competitive season in the Barclays WSL2, having earned promotion to the second tier at the end of last season.
