Mohamed Salah received a warm welcome from enthusiastic Trabzonspor supporters in Istanbul on Wednesday as he neared a transfer to the Turkish side.
The Liverpool legend donned the team’s iconic blue and burgundy striped jersey after arriving on a private jet to finalize the signing.
Prior to his arrival, he shared a clip of himself on the plane putting on his new shirt.
“Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you! See you very soon,” Salah said in a video posted on the club’s official X channel.
Turkish television broadcast images of Salah wearing a jersey with the number 61 as he arrived in Istanbul, where hundreds of chanting fans were there to greet him. NTV also aired footage of the Egyptian signing a Trabzon shirt and reported that his official signing ceremony is scheduled for Thursday in the Black Sea city.
Salah is now a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the conclusion of the last season.
Despite speculation that the 34-year-old Egypt international might finish his career in Saudi Arabia, it was revealed this week that Trabzonspor was leading the pursuit to sign him.
“We have initiated transfer discussions with Mohamed Salah; he’s on his way to Istanbul!” the club announced.
The official notification of the negotiations sent Trabzonspor shares rising by 6.5% in the Istanbul stock market.
During his tenure at Liverpool, Salah solidified his status as a Premier League superstar, securing two league titles and the Champions League among a total of eight major trophies.
He netted 257 goals in 442 matches for the Merseyside club and is considered one of its all-time greats.

However, he faced a challenging ending to his time at Anfield, experiencing a significant decline in form last season and a public conflict with former coach Arne Slot.
He managed just 12 goals across all competitions, a stark contrast to the 34 he scored the previous season.
In March, he announced his decision to leave the club at the season’s end, despite having a year remaining on the contract he signed in 2025.
Trabzonspor, seven-time champions of Turkey, finished third in the league last season.
